Five-letter search

Find the word that fits

Fix known positions, require letters and remove letters you know are not in the word.

Filter five-letter words by pattern

Enter the letters you already know in the Known pattern field and use a question mark for each unknown position. For example, S??RE finds five-letter words that begin with S and end in RE.

Filter by included and excluded letters

Use Must include when a letter belongs somewhere in the word but its position is uncertain. Use Exclude letters to remove words containing letters you have ruled out. The finder applies every filter together, so you can quickly narrow down a puzzle answer.

Example five-letter searches

  • A??ER finds words with A first, E fourth and R last.
  • ????? with ST included finds words containing both S and T.
  • ??A?? with E included and IOU excluded keeps A in the middle and removes three vowels.

Duplicate letters still count

Entering the same required letter twice means the result must contain it twice. A known letter in the pattern also stays fixed in that exact position. This makes the filters useful for words such as eager, tests and array.

Choose the right word tool

Use the Word Unscrambler when you have a rack of letters and want every shorter word it can make. Use the Word Finder when rack letters and an optional position pattern must work together. Use the Anagram Solver when every supplied letter must be used exactly once. For Wordle-style green, yellow and grey clues, try the Wordle Solver.

Frequently asked questions

What does ? mean?

A question mark represents one unknown position. The pattern is always five characters long, so a shorter pattern is automatically completed with question marks.

Can I share a filtered search?

Yes. Run the search and select Share search. The filters are stored after the # in the URL, keeping the main page canonical and preventing filtered combinations from becoming separate indexed pages.

Are results official game words?

No. MyToolMint uses a broad, openly licensed general-English list. A particular game, competition or publication may use a different dictionary.

Does MyToolMint save my letters?

No. The search runs in your browser. Shared filters may appear in the page URL, but MyToolMint does not store the search in an application database.
