What is a word unscrambler?
A word unscrambler takes a collection of letters and finds words that can be built from them. It helps you unscramble words, explore possible word-game moves and discover vocabulary without guessing every letter arrangement yourself.
How MyToolMint finds words
MyToolMint checks your letters against a local English word list. It counts each supplied letter, so a result is accepted only when every letter it needs is available. It does not generate millions of permutations or send your search to a paid dictionary service.
For example, TRAES can make stare, rates and east. It cannot make state, because STATE needs two Ts. Entering STA?E can find state because the question mark supplies the missing T.
Using blank tiles and filters
- Blank tiles: enter up to two question marks (?), with each one standing for any single letter.
- Length: choose any, exact, minimum, maximum or a range.
- Starts with: show only words beginning with specific letters.
- Ends with: narrow results to a particular ending.
- Contains: require a letter sequence anywhere in the word.
- Sorting: order by length, alphabetically or by tile score. A letter supplied by a blank tile scores zero points.
Tips for finding more words
- Start with the longest results, then work down to shorter words.
- Look for familiar beginnings and endings such as RE, UN, ED or ING.
- Pay close attention to duplicate letters.
- Remove restrictive filters if no results appear.
Example searches
Try TRAES to find stare, rates and tears. Use STA?E when one letter is unknown, or enter RETAINS and select an exact length to narrow a larger list. Search settings remain editable, so you can add or remove filters without starting over.
Word list and tile scores
Results come from the MyToolMint English word list, built from licensed American and British English spelling dictionaries. Individual games and competitions may use different dictionaries, so acceptance can vary. Tile scores use familiar English letter-tile values for comparison; MyToolMint is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any word-game publisher. Read the dataset and scoring details.
More ways to find words
Need a different kind of search? Use the Five-Letter Word Finder for fixed positions and excluded letters, the Word Finder for rack letters plus a pattern, or the Anagram Solver when every supplied letter must be used. The Word Tools hub helps you choose between the full set.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use blank tiles?
Yes. Use a question mark for each blank tile, up to two per search. Each question mark can stand for one missing letter.
Does the tool handle repeated letters?
Yes. A word can use a letter only as many times as it appears in your input, unless a blank tile supplies the missing occurrence.
Are searches private?
The search runs in your browser. Search settings can appear in the page URL when you use or share a search.
Are these official tournament words?
No. MyToolMint uses a broad general-English word list. Always check the rules and dictionary used by your particular game.
