Add VAT to a price
For an excluding price, VAT equals the net amount multiplied by the rate. The inclusive total is the net amount plus the VAT amount.
Remove VAT correctly
To extract VAT from a tax-inclusive amount, divide the total by 1 + rate to find the net amount. Simply subtracting the percentage from the gross amount gives the wrong answer.
Use the applicable rate
The rate is editable because VAT rates and rules vary by place, date, product and seller. The prefilled value is only a convenience; confirm the rate and treatment that apply to your transaction.
Rounding and records
Displayed currency amounts are rounded to two decimal places. Invoices and tax systems may use prescribed line-level rounding, exemptions or special rules, so use official records for filing and compliance.
